If you missed the Florida gubernatorial debate moderated by Patrick Bet-David, you may have done yourself a favor. The candidates hurled insults, guessed the price of food like some sort of game show, and at one point, James Fishback falsely accused the wife of Jay Collins of being a misbehaved heckler.
At some point, the republican candidates did provide some insight into their policy positions. Here is where they stand:
Jay Collins
- Supports the use of flock cameras
- Supports data centers
- Believes law enforcement benefits from surveillance techniques using both flock cameras and AI
- Got the most answers right on the “Guess the Price” game
Paul Renner
- Opposes tax relief for companies that hire veterans
- Opposes tax breaks for families
- Opposes paid maternity leave for mothers who recently gave birth
- Opposes property tax relief
James Fishback
- Opposes a cap on homeowner insurance price increases
- Opposes allowing migrants to get a college education
- Wants a “Sin Tax” on OnlyFans creators (even though Florida’s Constitution prohibits income taxes)
At one point, Fishback presented, what he appears to believe is breaking news: Jay Collins did not vote for Ron DeSantis in 2018 (presumably because Collins was a resident of Montana at the time).
In the end, the real winer was Byron Donalds, who didn’t bother to participate in this episode of Family Feud. But he does have a duty to debate at some point. Outside of this Republican-only “debate”, the Faith In Florida Action Fund held the very first gubernatorial debate in Boynton Beach. It was a non partisan forum that invited the exchange of ideas on everything from the Constitutionality of certain house bills, to the restrictions that prevent Floridian communities from incorporating and governing themselves.
Where Moe Stands
As an NPA Candidate for Governor of the State of Florida, Moe has a position on these same issues that came up during the republican debate:
- Banning flock cameras entirely and ending state surveillance
- Giving tax breaks to businesses who hire veterans
- Mandatory paid maternity leave
- Banning the construction of all data centers
- Maintaining Florida’s ban on income tax
During the FIFAF debate, the candidates were asked about cutting the red tape surrounding municipal incorporation and giving communities more power to govern themselves. None of the candidates had any insight on what they could, or would do, but Moe has experience in this filed and knows all about the bureaucratic red tape that keeps the People under the thumb of the county. Moe led the push to incorporate Pine Hills into its own municipality and faed relentless pushback from “stakeholders” like the state reps who wouldn’t sponsor the proposed charter, and a sheriff who didn’t want to lose jurisdiction to a brand new municipal police department. The red tape gets cut when Moe is sworn in as the 47th Governor of the State of Florida.
